GROUP THERAPY

We understand that, for many, opening up in front of a group of people isn’t easy. So at Safe Places, we encourage our patients to push through the initial barrier, giving them the opportunity to access enhanced interpersonal skills, increased confidence, and an understanding that, although it may feel like it, they’re not alone. Overseen by one of our friendly in-house facilitators/therapists, group therapy offers a safe space to learn, interact, and connect with individuals who don’t just understand – they’re living through it.
By creating a like-minded group and bringing together those who struggle with a similar disease, this therapy option is designed to introduce you to a new support system. Beyond unlocking weekly social interactions, your small group will benefit from sharing coping strategies, offering advice, and empathising with one another’s concerns. In the eyes of many, peer support from those with lived experience offers a more relaxed, casual experience than professional guidance.
Tailoring each session to the group’s needs, whether you’re experiencing anxiety about the future, an increase in cravings, or feel the need to strengthen your coping mechanisms, we’ll be led by the group, and the topics they deem crucial—no pressure to open up. Just genuine support, on your terms.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Our therapists are united in the belief that, with the help of a compassionate care team, a long-term treatment plan, and suitable medication, you can unlock a life that you deserve – happy, fulfilled, and stable. To us, therapy represents a crucial cog in the recovery wheel, unravelling destructive behaviours, building key coping strategies, and empowering you to believe that you are worth it.
Offering a range of evidence-based talk therapies and other therapies, from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to trauma, violence, and abuse-focused therapy and expressive art therapy, among others, our therapists will take ownership of your end-to-end healing journey. Guiding you through the initial consultation, diagnosis, and the creation of a patient-centred treatment plan, we’ll bring a well-trained, experienced, and deeply considerate caregiver to you, placing a vast range of resources at your disposal. Put simply, we’re on your team.
At Safe Places, we are known for never turning away a person in need. Treating individuals with all diagnoses, from anxiety, OCD, and depression to schizophrenia, PTSD, and bipolar disorder – and everything in-between – we represent a hub of judgement-free guidance. It’s what we’re known for, relentless in the belief that everybody deserves treatment, regardless of complexities, disease, addictions, and the bumps in the road that led them to us.

INDIVIDUAL, COUPLE AND GROUP COUNSELLING

We don’t see you as a diagnosis. We view our patients as individuals, with wants, goals, preferences, and needs, complete with happy, fulfilled futures in front of them. That’s why, to us, it’s never enough to opt for the ‘one size fits all approach. Instead, we’ll build bespoke treatment plans to fit your most intricate needs, steering clear of advice, and celebrating the power of listening. Often called upon short-term to target specific issues, we are there in the moments that count.
Delivering hands-on support navigating your most difficult life events, our counselling sessions are designed to help you understand your behaviours, strengthen your self-esteem, and importantly, give you the tools to handle even the most difficult circumstances. Think HIV/aids, marriage, grief, career, infertility, substance abuse, and trauma counselling – all met with the same judgement-free, compassionate approach.
We won’t just hear you – we will genuinely listen. Creating a safe, confidential environment to put you at ease, we will talk through the topics you bring to the surface, working at a pace you’re comfortable with. We will use talking therapy to remove the weight of your toughest emotions off your shoulders by building positive thought patterns, combatting destructive habits, and exploring the innermost thoughts that keep you awake at night.

PSYCHO- EDUCATION

At Safe Places, education doesn’t end; we value continued learning and consider it the heart of all our treatments. We champion the importance of helping you – and your loved ones – understand your diagnosis, triggers, and coping mechanisms. It’s the driving force behind your recovery, giving you the ability to pinpoint risk factors, identify potential triggers, and take ownership of your healing journey.
Backed by our in-house experts, this service goes far beyond a helping hand in recognising your symptoms. Exploring your treatment options, assessing your prognosis, and examining the circumstances that led to your diagnosis, from genetic predispositions to environmental factors, we’ll help you become an expert on your condition—with invaluable insight into the inner workings of your diagnosis, exploring the ‘what’, ‘why’, and ‘how’ behind it, this service has been referred to as “the empowerment of the affected” – and for good reason.
Regarded as a relapse prevention tool and a key component in the growth journeys of all scopes, this evidence-based service puts the spotlight on awareness. Take depression, for example. We’ll analyse your triggers, identify often-overlooked symptoms, and, if you’re comfortable, explore your family dynamic, developing a clear picture of how you got here, and importantly, where to go from here.
