Privacy Notice
How we handle personal information.

Safe Places Uganda LTD (“we,” “us”) provides mental-health and addiction treatment services from our centres at Kyambogo, Kampala and Bujjuko, Mityana–Fort Portal Road. This notice explains how we handle personal information — on this website and in our services — and the choices you have. It is written to comply with Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and its Regulations, and with the confidentiality and patient-rights provisions of the Mental Health Act, Cap. 308.
The short version
Health information is among the most sensitive information there is, and treating it with care is part of treating you with care. We collect only what your care, or your enquiry, requires; we do not sell or trade personal information; and what you tell us is confidential, shared beyond the people involved in your care only with your consent, where the law requires or permits it, or where sharing is reasonably necessary to protect you or another person from serious harm.
Information we collect
When you contact us or browse this site: your name and contact details if you provide them (by phone, WhatsApp, email, or the private message form), the content of your enquiry, and technical data such as pages visited. An enquiry can be as anonymous as you wish; if you go on to receive care, some information becomes necessary to treat you safely and bill accurately
When you become a client: identification and contact details, next-of-kin details, medical and treatment history, assessment and clinical records, and billing information. Clinical records are held under professional standards of confidentiality in addition to data-protection law, and your dignity and privacy as a patient are themselves protected by law (Mental Health Act, Cap. 308).
Why we use it
To respond to enquiries; to assess, treat, and support clients; to involve family members or another supporter with the client’s consent; to bill for services, including to an insurer where the client asks us to; to meet legal, regulatory, and professional obligations; and to run and secure this website. We do not use client information for marketing.
Confidentiality and its limits
What you tell us is confidential. It is accessed only by authorised people who need it to provide, coordinate, administer or fund your care. We share it outside that group only with your consent, where the law requires or permits it, or where sharing is reasonably necessary to protect you or another person from serious harm. Where it is safe and practicable, we will discuss this with you first and share only what is necessary.
We involve family members or another supporter with your consent. They do not automatically receive your clinical record. Ugandan law may require or permit us to provide limited information about an admission, treatment process, consent or review rights, or information necessary to address a serious safety or safeguarding concern. We share only what is required or necessary.
Who we share information with
Nobody, except: members of your care team; your insurer, where you ask us to bill one (shared per case, with your knowledge); professionals you ask us to communicate with, such as a referring doctor; and authorities where the law requires it. Where we use service providers to run this website or our systems, they act under contract and cannot use your information for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
Enquiry information: kept no longer than is needed to respond to you and to arrange any support you have asked about. Clinical records: retained as required by Ugandan health-records law and professional standards. Billing records: as required by tax law.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection and Privacy Act you can ask what information we hold about you, ask for corrections, object to certain uses, and complain to the Personal Data Protection Office if you believe we have handled your information unlawfully. As a patient you also have rights under the Mental Health Act, Cap. 308, including the right to information about your admission, treatment, and consent, and a right of appeal regarding decisions about your care; the current appeal route is explained during admission. To exercise any of these, contact info@safeplacesuganda.com.
